Ladies and Gentlemen, please allow me to continue in English. This morning, the forum opened with insightful sharing by Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Ambassador Wu Jianmin, Dr Ma Weihua and Mr Ronnie Chan. The forum delegates were also invigorated by the 10 panel discussions that took place thereafter.
Tomorrow afternoon, the Dialogue with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will round off the FutureChina Global Forum and this is certainly another session to look forward to.
Tonight, we have with us a distinguished guest, Dr Lee Kai-Fu who is one of the most prominent figures in China’s IT sector and is highly acclaimed for his pioneering work in the areas of speech recognition and artificial intelligence. He is also recognized as an influential opinion leader in China’s social media arena, as his online popularity tops the business hall of fame at Sina Corp and Tencent, China’s two dominant Weibo service providers. Dr Lee was previously the Founding President of Google China. Prior to that, he held senior positions at Microsoft, SGI and Apple Inc. He now heads Innovation Works, a venture creation platform geared to create the next wave of Chinese high-tech companies and to mentor the next generation of Chinese IT entrepreneurs.
Tonight, Dr Lee will share with us his invaluable insights and perspectives on how IT entrepreneurs are changing China. In 2011, China’s number of netizens crossed the 500 million milestone. Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, now has 300 million users. This is double of Twitters’ 140 million users worldwide. The influence of China’s web citizens is indeed a force to be reckoned with. How can China’s IT industry further leverage this force in a constructive way to benefit China’s growth?
On this note, it gives me great pleasure to invite our speaker for tonight, Dr Lee Kai-Fu, on stage to share his views on this topic. We look forward to a fruitful and engaging discussion with him. Dr Lee, please.
May I also invite on-stage, Ms Tian Wei, the moderator for tonight’s dialogue. Ms Tian Wei is a leading anchorwoman of CCTV who is very experienced in hosting domestic and international events, and has held exclusive interviews with heads of states and important international figures, including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Ms Tian Wei, please.
