Business China Chairman Mr Lee Yi Shyan attended the 13th Singapore-Jiangsu Cooperation Council (SJCC) meeting on 25 September 2019 at Suzhou, China. The Singapore-Jiangsu Cooperation Council (SJCC) was officially launched on 1 November 2007. Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and Education and Mr Wu Zhenglong, Governor of Jiangsu Province, are Co-Chairmen of the Council. Dr Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Mr Guo Yuanqiang, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, are the Vice Co-Chairmen of SJCC. The Council aims to promote multi-faceted cooperation between Singapore and Jiangsu Province, ranging from economic, tourism to education exchanges.
Minister Indranee led a 120 strong delegation, comprising more than 30 business representatives in legal, accountancy, intellectual property and financial services.
In her opening speech, Minister Indranee said that “Singapore and Jiangsu are like-minded partners, and new opportunities for collaboration – be it in trade and economics, innovation, people relations – will continue to arise from our alignment of interests.” Singapore and Jiangsu affirmed closer cooperation in areas including BRI and Jiangsu Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ), with the renewal of the SJCC Memorandum of Understanding signed at the 13th SJCC meeting.
At the SJCC meeting, Mr Lee had a deeper understanding on future development directions between Singapore and Jiangsu. With that, Business China will be able to assist and facilitate more interactions between Singapore and Jiangsu companies in areas of interest. Mr Lee also witnessed 16 MOUs signed by Singapore and Chinese companies. Among the new deals was one between EtonHouse International Education Group and Xiangcheng Weitang District Government to develop a pre-school in Suzhou. Mapletree and the Chinese authorities will build an industrial park in Wuxi. Century Water will also set up an advanced membrane research and development centre in Nanjing.
