Companies and entrepreneurs who have helped to enhance relations between Singapore and China will now be recognised with the inaugural Business China Awards, which will be held on November 23 this year.
Commemorating 20 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Business China said it intends to deepen this bond as the Chinese economy continues to power ahead, recording 12 per cent growth for the first quarter this year.
"We hope to encourage more Singaporeans to take the challenge in China," said Mr Chua Thian Poh, chairman of Business China.
After being conceptualised for the past year, the award is open to enterprises and businessmen from Singapore and Greater China - which includes Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau and mainland China.
The awards are divided into three categories: Business China Excellence Award, Business China Young Achiever Award and Business China Enterprise Award.
The organisers said judging criteria will be broad and inclusive.
"One of the set of attributes that are important to communities both in China and in Singapore, are enterprise-corporate governance and effective management," said Mr Lim Chee Onn, a director at Business China and senior adviser at Keppel Corporation. "Both Singapore and China are hoping to improve on those aspects."
